Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.   What is hypnosis?
A1.    Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness of the mind that is also known as trance. It can be achieved while the person is awake or during sleep. There are different theories explaining hypnosis. It results in focused attention, reduced peripheral awareness, and an increased capacity to respond to the power of suggestion.

Q2.   What is the difference between stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
A2.    Stage hypnosis is performed as entertainment for audiences. Hypnosis is a tool used by hypnotherapists, always with their client’s consent, to help to treat a wide range of conditions.  Registered hypnotherapists undergo thorough professional training with the purpose of safely using hypnosis to produce lasting positive changes that benefits their clients. Hypnotherapy is not currently regulated in the UK. However registered hypnotherapists are members of, and accredited by relevant organisations such as The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNCH) and The British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis (BSCAH) etc, and will be found on their public registers where applicable.
